How to Get to Barcelos

Barcelos is a city, of historical importance, situated approx. 65 Km Northeast from Porto, easily accessible by public transportations (train or bus) or car.

Car
From Porto there are two possible routes:
- Take the "A3-Braga" towards Braga. On A3 take the exit "Barcelos" through A11.
- Take the "ICI-Matosinhos". On IC1 take the exit "Barcelos" through A11.
From Braga, take the "A3-Valença / Barcelos". On A3 take the exit "Barcelos" through the A11.
From the centre and south of Portugal head towards Porto and from there choose one of the possible routes above mentioned.

Bus
There are daily buses to Barcelos with departure from Braga. Possible connections everyday to buses from Porto, Lisbon and Faro heading towards Braga. Please check this website for times: www.rede-expressos.pt
From Braga the bus departs from "Terminal Rodoviário" and the journey to Barcelos takes approx. 1 hour.

Train
There are daily trains to Barcelos departing from Porto-S. Bento or Porto-Campanhã. Some trains are direct, but others will make you change trains in Nine. Please check this website for times and details: www.cp.pt
The journey from Porto to Barcelos by train varies between 1 hour and 1 hour and 20 mins. The fare is 3,10 euros (for the case in which you have to change trains in Nine) and 5,70 (for the direct journey).
From Braga there are also daily departures to Barcelos. But you will always have to change trains in Nine. The journey, due to the fact that you have to change trains, takes at least 40 minutes. The fare is 2,60 euros.
There are various trains that connect you to Porto-Campanhã with departures from the centre and south of Portugal.
Please note that it is not necessary to book your tickets in advance as fares do not vary according to time of booking and there are usually plenty of seats on each train. The only exceptions are the trains from Lisbon to Porto, which are advisable to book at least one day in advance.

The nearest airport is situated in Porto (Aeroporto de Sá Carneiro-airport code OPO).
From the airport you can reach the city of Porto by metro - purpled colour, E line, towards Estádio do Dragão. Trains depart every 20 mins and the journey takes approx. 35 mins. The fare is 1,40 euros.
It is also possible to reach the city of Porto by bus, via bus 602, towards Cordoaria. The fare is 1,25 euros.

If you are travelling by metro from the airport to the city of Porto and wish to proceed your journey to Barcelos by train, the most convenient metro stops are Campanhã or S. Bento. If you wish to proceed your journey to Barcelos by bus, the most convenient metro stop is Aliados.
If you are travelling by bus from the airport to the city of Porto please note that the final stop - Cordoria - is situated less than 5 mins walking from the train station Porto-S. Bento and less than 10 mins walking from the bus stop (Batalha).
